Ring Size Guide

Finding the correct ring size can be a challenging task. Below we have outlined how you can estimate your ring size at home. We do, however, recommend that you visit one of our stores or a local jeweller to have your ring size professionally measured.

How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

  • Take a piece of sturdy cardboard, thick wire or plastic the width of the ring you are interested in.
  • Wrap it around the finger that you want to wear the ring on. Avoid using string. It is too flimsy and will bend to the shape of the finger.
  • Mark the exact spot where the ends join.
  • With a ruler, measure the length from end to end.
  • After you have measured the length, tape it together and put it on the finger to ensure that the fit is comfortable.
  • Don’t push or squeeze it to get it onto the finger as you won’t be able to this with a real ring.
  • Make sure it fits over your knuckles.
  • Use the chart below as a guideline to find the correct size (South Africa follows the UK size model).

Important Things to Note

  • You finger size can vary depending on your body temperature. Do not take a measurement when your body temperature is either too hot (as your finger size will be larger than normal) or too cold (as your finger size will be smaller than usual).
  • Your ring should fit your finger comfortably. It should be snug enough so that it won't fall off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle. Also remember, there are significant differences between the right and left hand.
  • Rings with a particularly thick band will fit tighter than a ring with a thinner band. When purchasing a thicker band, we recommend selecting a full size larger than your normal ring size.
  • If your knuckle is bigger than the base of your finger, we recommend going up half or even a full size.
  • We advise that you determine the correct size prior to ordering a ring with stones, as we cannot be held responsible for incorrect sizing in this case.
  • Should you need to resize your ring after receiving it, we are happy to help. Please note that we charge a small fee for resizing as well as re-plating, if required:
  • Sterling Silver
  • Gold rings – From R450
  • We do not recommend having your Pearl and Diamond Designs products resized at any other jeweller, as we cannot be held liable for resulting damage or poor workmanship.
